Description

This picture I've finally completed as a tribute against clipping bird wings. I know it's a black and white war on the topic and everyone has their own opinions about it, well this is how I view it. It's all the same as defanging a wolf, declawing a cat, or hobbling a horse. By clipping a bird you're taking something very important away from them, their natural ability to get around and stay healthy.
The inexperienced do it because they're told to, breeders and keepers do it because they think it keeps their birds safer, they think it will keep their house cleaner, they think it will keep birds from flying away from them. People do it because they don't do research and learn the training they could use to keep a healthy flying bird, or maybe this is the way they've always done things and it's an easy short-cut opposed to training. Some people might do it as a technique of training, thinking if they keep their bird grounded their bird will love them more as a dependable ride.

But clipped birds can still get hurt, they can still get out and get loose, and because they're clipped and they know they can't fly to get away from trouble; they're more likely to bite and take on bad behaviors. They can become depressed, bored, resort to plucking, become aggressive which may deter their owners from handling them, making them even more aggressive. Clipped birds are deprived from healthy exercise, they become deprived from hormones the body receives when exercised.
Imagine if you were forced to spend the rest of your life in a rollie chair. You could still get around, play with things, pick things up, kick your feet. But you would slowly decay in mind and body.

I know this is several years late, but I just saw this picture. I feel exactly the same way, and think it's a horrible thing to do to a bird.
